Anti - Veining Sand Additive Tissalys Blue

Tissalys is a starch product, which does not react with water.

It may be used to improve surface finish and to prevent veining defects in castings due to sand expansion cracks during casting & reduce cleaning costs.

Tissalys is added to silica sand at between 0.5 - 1.0% depending on the severity of the application normally on internal cores for iron and copper based castings.During the casting process this fine organic material is burned away allowing sand expansion to take place without cracking of the core and the formation of veining defects which can lead to more severe metal penetration.

Sand binder addition normally needs to be increased slightly to maintain core strength.

As this material does not react with water storage and flow properties are enhanced but more importantly water based coatings may be used with no leaching of starch into the coating, which can lead to coating scabbing defects.

In order to indicate that the material is present in the correct dose a vegetable dye is added which gives a clear signal if powder feeders are empty or blocked.

Tissalys Blue is used in the production of complex cast iron cylinder head castings at Ferrotech in The UK with good results and the sure knowledge that addition rates are correct. Tissalys may be supplied with or without dye colour indication in bulk bags.

Advise on suitable powder feeding equipment is also available if required.
