Ceramic Strainers
Introduction
The use of ceramic strainers is standard practice in a wide range of foundries from the highly automated plant supplying the automobile industry to the small semi-mechanised unit producing general engineering castings. They are of particular value to those foundries requiring high quality irons, malleable irons, S.G. irons or non-ferrous alloys for the production of pressure-tight castings, those requiring a high degree of machining and general high quality work.
By enabling simplified running systems to be employed and by controlling metal velocity and pouring rate, ceramic strainer cores minimise sand erosion, mould aspiration and air entrapment. The methods engineer and quality conscious foundryman are provided with an effective technique for increasing their output of saleable castings by eliminating scrap resulting from slag or dross inclusions.
